Rimmel London 9 in 1 BB Cream Review

Summer is coming which means my obsession with BB creams is back with full force. Not only for their hydrating goodness but for their SPF, you know how I am! If I can use one product rather than two I will choose it every time. So, this post is about the Rimmel London 9 in 1 BB Cream.

The promise: In Boots this product is described as: “Rimmel’s 1st 9-in-1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup 9 in 1 results: Primes, moisturises, minimises pores, conceals, covers, smoothes, mattifies, brightens, and helps protect. Lightweight, ultra comfortable formula instantly gives a flawless finish.”

The results: Well… Let’s have a look at the promises systematically…

Primes – ish..it was not easy to blend but it did last a long time.

Moisturises – I’d say yes because my skin didn’t feel dry but I have normal skin so if it had dried my skin something would have seriously gone wrong!

Pore  Minimiser – I have no pore problem so that was not a problem for me.

Conceals – Not really a little for blemishes and definitely no for under eye circles.

Covers – That’s my first yes. It does cover, my problem is that it just does it too much.

Smooths – Again another yes, my skin did look visibly smooth.

Mattifies – No.

Brightens – Yes it really did.

Protects – Yes (I think)… I haven’t caught enough sun or rain on it!

Conclusion: This  BB cream has mixed reviews everywhere and I think I’ve figured out why, it fits perfectly healthy skin that doesn’t actually need half of the things it promises to do… I mean for all the things I didn’t really need it to work perfectly it worked fine but for those under eye circles it really let me down.

Also, in what planet can this formula be called ‘lightweight’?! It actually made my forehead look ‘cakey’. Overall I did pick up this product for £3,99 and the consistency did improve when I diluted it with face cream. So all in all would I buy it again? Not really. But is it good value for money? If you don’t have spots or big pores yeah.

This is actually the first proper review in this blog is making so let me know if you like it or whether this would be better in quick video form!

L’oreal Color Rich Nail Polish in Parisian Rooftops

I’m a girl of phases… Sometimes I obsess over bags, other perfumes, other times the perfect blush ( I do have a colour for each season), but right now, I’ve got a healthy obsession over nail polishes more specific the L’oreal polishes. I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the L’oreal nail polishes. Sometimes I love them, other times I hate them, for example I hated their pink  jeans style in shade Jean-and-Tonic. Not the colour but the chipping on it was not nice 😦 . Screen Shot 2015-05-28 at 15.47.07 I actually bought the Parisian Rooftops and the Jean and Tonic together and decided to try the Jean and Tonic first, so I was a bit weary over the chipping after having the first one, but I can safely say that this little baby is responsible for the latest love wave I’m feeling for them right now. The shade is mostly grey but, wait for it… it has a hint of purple!!!! Can you feel my excitement coming off the screen?! My two favourite colours in 1 little beautifully magic bottle 😀 Screen Shot 2015-05-28 at 16.06.59 FullSizeRender All I can say is, I love it! Let me know what you think – only positively ofc :p Nat x

Summer Hair Colours – Purple or Balayage highlights?

It’s that time of the year when you want to dye your hair for the summer. My mum was always quite conservative about our hairs so I’m a bit of a late comer onto the crazy hair colours game. Last year I did a couple of natural highlights inspired by Mila Kunis but this year I was thinking a bit bolder….

I’ve narrowed it down to either purple or ‘sunkissed’ balayage highlights.

I haven’t found anything that let’s me try my hair with the highlights yet, so here are the sun kissed shades I’ve been looking at – (please try to ignore the gorgeous face of the model and focus on the hair :p ).

Left sunkissed highlight hair from Pinterest. Right Sunkissed Brunette Hair.

And these two great apps Hair Color Booth and Instant Hair Color which are free from the app store – have taken care of the purple!

Drugstore Makeup Challenge with 5 Products or Less

Hello lovelies!

Today’s post is about a quick 5 products of less make up look and sunshine was actually the inspiration for this post. The look was done with all drugstore makeup, however I have used my brushes which go a long way in giving you that flawless look!

I had been watching another Lisa Eldridge post (that woman has fairy hands that puts out perfect make up every time), and thought I’d try one of her summery natural healthy looks with one of her favourites, and mine, the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum.

If you’re like me, having a long winter has left your skin looking a bit too pale and yellow for your liking, so since it’s a simple enough everyday look, I thought I’d try it out!

Products used left to right – Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in shade 55, Lorea’l True Match in share W4-5, Rimmel London Colour Rush Balm in shade Drive Me Nude,  Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Berry shade 06 and Rimmel Scandal Eyes kohl liner.

Let me know what you think!

Before – No make up

Halfway there – just eyes and lips to go!

All done!
All done!

First Food Post: Quick and Easy Diced Beef with Vegetables and Rice

Hello lovelies!

Today’s post is about one of my favourite things in the whole world: food!

This is actually my first post showing recipes in my new kitchen, so I thought I’d do something simple yet special to me. I am going to make diced beef with vegetables and rice.

Now as is widely known, us Brazilians love our steaks and this is also true for a nice and easy well seasoned beef dish.

A quick note:

Having learnt to cook with mama, in our ’there’s no recipe, you will learn by watching me because that’s how I’ve done it’ way, that is how I cook everything, so the amount I’ve described here is for 2-3 people based on my experience. I find it much more fun than fallowing recipes but sometimes it goes wrong! So my tip for you when cooking, is to always add salt and pepper in small spoons and try the dish as you go along.

Also, if you’re one of those people who can do everything simultaneously as I’ve written follow the prep mode as is, otherwise, I have written them under headings so you can just do one at a time, don’t worry it’ll take a little bit longer but, it will still be quite fast. So let’s get to it. You’ll need:

For the beef and potatoes: (15-20mins)

1 roughly diced onion

3 pieces of garlic

4 medium potatoes or around 6 small ones

1 large tomato

Salt to taste

Olive oil

Black pepper to taste

(optional around 6 small chopped mushrooms and 1 chopped red bell pepper)

For the rice: (15-20mins)

200g of rice

Olive oil

1-2 pieces of garlic

Salt to taste

Chop the potatoes put them in water on one side and leave them. Put water to boil in a medium pan.

Finely chop 2 garlic pieces and the roughly chop the onion, put it in a frying pan which has been drizzled with olive oil. Chop the mushrooms and the red pepper – put them to one side. Season the meat on a container and add it to the frying pan where the onion is.

On your boiling water pan, drizzle it with olive oil and put a tea spoon of salt on the water. Drain your soaking potatoes and put them in the pan with the boiling water. Leave it cooking for 10 minutes.

Add the chopped mushrooms and the red pepper on the meat. Mix well.

Chop the two pieces of garlic and put them in another pan drizzle the pan with some olive oil and when the garlic is frying add the rice and salt to taste. Add water until it’s around one finger above the rice and you can’t see it anymore. Put it to boil on high.

Potatoes and Beef:

Drain the potatoes and add them to the meat. Turn the fire to medium and add the tomatoes. Let it fry for two minutes then turn the hob off and put a lid on it. It’ll look like this:

You should now be able to see the rice again, but still see water boiling in the middle of it, turn the fire to low and put a lid on it. It’ll be ready in five minutes, giving you enough time to make a salad of your choice!

If you are doing things separately make the beef last as it is not as tasty or soft on the mouth once it gets cold. Do the rice, potatoes and then the beef.

And finished:

My picture here shows this dish with my mama’s famous Brazilian beans which are a bit more complicated and need a pressure cooker to make from scratch so, it’s stuff for another time!

Sorry for not showing the well cut out vegetables not that organised! But if you have enjoyed this recipe please click like, share and comment – let me know what you think!

Living Room Reveal – Purple and Grey

Last week ended in a flurry so I missed the update on the not spending post and haven’t even done the ‘reward weekend’ post! Sorry!! But we finished the living room this weekend and I think that’s a much nicer update!

As mentioned above the last two days of that week went pretty much in a flurry, and over the weekend we laid down the new living flooring which means I can finally post the very first room reveal in our new home!!

We bought the flat two months ago, it was empty, we had no furniture and worst all the walls were painted yellow. So, first things first, of course, it all got painted white. Well, aside from the spare bedroom whose first coat of white was done today – but this is for another time.

The living room. I imposed a budget on this one because at some point the sofas we were looking for were white and around a thousand pounds, which for someone who has baby kittens is just stupid. They. Claw. EVERYTHING.

So, aside from the TV we imposed a £500 budget to get it done and here it is:

To those who know me the feature wall colour is no surprise – I love purple! We tried to keep everything else pretty simple, and each room has a different colour feature wall. Last week when we went to buy the screws for my dressing table we saw this lovely floor on sale and the boyfriend spent the whole Saturday putting it on so I thought it was only nice to recognize that here! Although I helped do half of it, he was literally the force behind it all, as I could not slide them into place at all, no matter how hard I tried they would not budge…

We still haven’t decided what curtains to put on as we need one that goes with the grey sofa and purple wall, (if  you see one, please let me know?).

The furniture is from my favourite place IKEA and they had lovely things to put on top of it, but we’ve also had to keep the stuff on top of the furniture to a minimum, as this is what happens when flowers get put on the table:

Leo on the table

Cute you say?! Yes… Right until Leo figures out that the glass moves and paws at it until I either take him off the table of he throws it off it…

Anyway, I hope you like the living room it was done up with love!

Shopping Break – Day 1: Excuses and Exceptions Tips for Getting Through the No Spend Ban

After having to do some shopping for the house yesterday and remembering that it is mother’s day on Sunday and there are two other family birthdays coming up, my no spending resolution was beginning to waiver.

Then I caught myself looking at the KiKo website! Naughty!

I actually went to leave a complaint (which will be this week’s makeup post – I shopped last week before the ban…), not only did they not have a form I could leave a complaint at, I found myself looking at their makeup section which had nothing to do with what I was supposed to do.

This got me thinking about the practicalities of this challenge/experiment. I have family 2 birthdays a mother’s day and my anniversary this month.

This means that practically speaking there have to be certain exceptions to the spending rule. On the other hand, part of the ban is not to take the piss by over using excuses.

So, if you’re going through a shopping ban or simply trying to save it’s worth considering the following:

– Check your dates in advance – If you go for a meal check which day of the week it is and plan the restaurant accordingly. Most places have promotions on a daily basis, from half prices to bogofs.

– Know that there will be ‘exceptions’ – I cannot control family member’s birthdays but I can control my actions by planning ahead, creating a budget and sticking to it.

– Say no to ‘excuses’. I have already come up with 1001 things I feel are ‘needs’. Be strong. Write them down if you have to then cross off the ones that really aren’t.

– Deliver your reward when you do well. Overbanning yourself can and most likely will have a reverse effect when you spend. It’s ok to have that cup of coffee once in a while, just don’t turn it into an everyday excuse!

So far so good with the budget spending on my side! I would love to know what you do when you have to save up, please share it on the comments below.

How to Stop Spending – Shopping Break Day 0

I admit… I’m a bit of a shopaholic… Whenever I get paid I end up spending my hard earned money on crap until there’s little to nothing left at the end of the month.

This is specially true if I’m extremely frustrated, which lets face it happens often…

But, being a somewhat sensible person (I think), I’ve realised that I really do need to save up! So, I am putting myself through an experiment.

For a month, from Monday to Friday there will be no spending. Followed by a small allowance on the weekend – maybe £20 (still setting clear goals)..?

As a commitment device to myself, I’ve decided that if I do spend during the week not only do I not get the weekend allowance, I won’t be able to watch TV until the following weekend (my other addiction is watching crime and medical series so I think this might work).

Taking the ‘one day at a time’ mantra from the AA let’s see how this will go, I’ll post how I get on as the week goes by and I have to make due with whatever we have in the house (cue nervous smile!).

See you tomorrow!

Alternative DIY Makeup/Vanity Shelf

When we moved home, we gained a whole flat but lost a little in room space. Back at (my other) home I had a DIY dressing table that my boyfriend had built me which I had to leave behind, leaving me with all my makeup and creams and no place to put them at (my new) home.

Being the problem solving guy that he is, my lovely boyfriend spent about two hours with me looking for solutions for our small space, and we went to get it this morning at it looks awesome!

IMG_1092 IMG_1091

It took him a while to convince me to give up on the table (no comment) but after some research as to what we could get in store today we found a pretty good deal at B&Q so now my makeup have a home once again! And through large white hooks, my hair accessories do too.

The shelf is L80cmxD25cm which works perfectly with the space we’ve got and the handy drawer means the narrowness at the top is not a problem. Now, all we need is to find that perfect mirror and chair, but that’s stuff for another post!

Good night!

Office Ideas for May!

It’s May one of my favourite times of the year and it’s pay day which has me so excited about finally doing the office this month! I’ve been searching high and low for little things to finally get it how I want.

The trouble is, every room is unique so I’m not quite sure what I want! Just in case though, I’ve pieced together a couple of my favourite offices from Pinterest! Let me know your favourite?
